Marine Consultants, Logistics Managers

About Us

Calcon was established in 1990 and was initially active in the field of P&I Surveying. During those early days we conducted cargo condition surveys on paper and steel cargoes, and investigated cargo fires, cargo damage, petroleum and petrochemical contaminations, stevedore damage, and vessel damage.

We added bulk liquid inspections to our range of services offered in 1992, although our initial activities were focusses on STS surveys, and P&I surveys on tankers. We established a petroleum key-point testing laboratory in 1994, and quickly grew into a leading cargo inspection company, serving the oil industry in South Africa and elsewhere.

We discontinued inspection and testing services around 2005, after a merger, and focussed our attention on consulting to the Oil and P&I industries.

We have a long and distinguished history of consulting  to P&I Clubs, Tanker Owners and Charterers, Oil Companies and marine lawyers. have given Expert Witness in oil contamination matters. Much of our present -day business involves the superintendence of cargo loading and discharge operations, especially when challenging circumstances call for an expert to be present.

We also assist clients whose vessels have grounded, clients who may have concerns about a port or terminal and need an independent review of that facility or vessel perhaps. Recent clients include terminals which have experienced major oil spills and who needed assistance in managing the clean-up operation and with managing the numerous claims arising, mooring incidents, bunker quality, and other.

Our logistics management division started in 1993, when we were requested to manage an operation on behalf of an overseas-based client. and continue to serve clients moving road tanker loads cross-border. We have not only managed all aspects of cross-border transport, including border clearing, security, etc, but have also owned and operated our own highly-specced road tankers in order to serve our clients.
